To be a refugee
involves much waiting
Waiting in tent cities on borders,
on far flung isles,
immobilized by stagnant days
Waiting for the next ration,
waiting for red tape to unravel,
waiting for something to change,
waiting for someone
to do something,
waiting for Fate’s twisted hand
to touch them,
waiting for the sun to set,
the guards to pass,
for a connection,
a boat, a train,
waiting for family,
to belong,
to be someone
Waiting to go home
or to find a new home
