The First Apricot Of The Season

Image result for apricots

He hands it to me

like a diamond brooch

I turn it over in my hand

Not too hard,

not picked too early

for over eager mouths

Rich orange-yellow hue,

a softness beckoning sweetness

It holds the promise of summer syrup

Its cleavage,

a divine curvature,

its touch velvet smooth

My teeth gently sink

into its sweet flesh,

summers’ past leap to mind.
