Viva la Vida

Frida Kahlo Viva La Vida (1954) watermelons painting

Viva la Vida (1954)  by Frida Kahlo

To dream of watermelons in the depths of winter

is to tease cruelly

Their soft, cool flesh,

their sweet juice dripping from your chin,

the curve of a slice smile wider than your mouth

It is a samba of high summer,

a maraca of music,

a salutation of seasonal syrup
