Mont Sainte-Victoire

Mont Sainte-Victoire 1900 by Paul Cezanne

Obsession with a mountain,

painted from many angles

with light playing kaleidoscope tricks

across its crags and crevices

My Derwent pencils delight

in choosing colours, hues, shadows

which cascade through the foreground

and every tint of grey, blue and cream

on the mountain

Lost to the tones,

in Cezanne’s palette

there is a meditative state
