Barn Owl Blessing

A barn owl blessed our day

We startled you, I apologize

Daylight slumber dismayed

I wasn’t sorry, I cannot lie

Alarmed, you lifted into day’s air,

wings fanned in feather sculpture

you flew to escape we, human pair

and for this, we cannot fault you

Your midnight eyes of charcoal,

your visage framed, brown rimmed,

strong beak, telling predator’s role,

you rose over our heads, deftly skimmed

You wear your heart on your face,

under down, small dark tear marked

Your being such beauty, passed by in haste,

this day’s wonder leaves and is duly harked

Your arching white flight,

Your blotches of rich buff hues,

Your existence here, white light

You, our midday avian muse
