Pink On Blue

Bent to the business of feeding,

stick-like legs, knee deep

long flexible necks

dip into still blue water,

ripples swell out to stillness

In a carotenoid consomme

of algae pigments and invertebrates,

they slurp and filter

these bisque feeders

This pink colony,

fairyfloss feathered,

wade together

Their plumage, legs, and face

tinted by their bouillabaisse diet

rich in carotenoid pigments,

flushed by what they swig
