Leaden Day

Morning’s humidity

has grown steadily heavy

The weight of precipitation

pronounces the day’s mood

Large, individual droplets splatter

announcing cloud saturation

provoked precipitation

takes command

Loud rain, its own cacophony

hammers the roof

Bass drum thunder

punctuates the air

The day’s light is muted,

vibrancy of flowers is proclaimed

Lawn’s green is greener,

purple petunias pontificate

The clash of thunder’s cymbals,

forte dynamic to the stormy sonata,

plants wait out this deliverance

in stoic stillness
