The Proper Order

(with apologies to e.e. cummings)

Given that feeling comes first

What care I for the proper order of things

A kiss is pressing

Now, not later,

in the proper order

Now while love is burgeoning

My blood rushes with pressing approval

and kisses are more fun

than doing things

in the proper order

It is my firm held belief

that the brain isn’t always right

that love sparks nerve endings

and a flow of sweet desire
