Image result for streets in the old city, lecce

In a flamboyant bright Italy

when sunlight ran as warm water

I came upon the art

of so many embellished churches

I sampled the delights

of centuries of religion

Narrow streets of dense stone curl

balconies tower over pedestrians

photographic art hung over balustrades

like wet towels to dry

In the evening promenade

families lick ice-creams and chat

Women walk the street catwalk

their skirts swirling poppies

Cafes spritz their wine

in fountains of good cheer

The buzz on the evening air

whirls on musical staff

A foreign rhythm

still echoing in my memories
