Morning Sun 1952 by Edward Hopper

Another morning,

another day

Sunlight dictates that I rise

go through the paces of this day,

like those of yesterday

and tomorrow and tomorrow

Again, the petty repetition of routine

Thus days stretch out to the moment of death

This brief life consumed

by the paltry, the trifling,

the meaningly swagger

of self-importance

and the agonies of self-doubt

What the hell!

I think I’ll call in sick
